CuttingBoard+ Prototype
Thanks to users like you, we are a still a work in progress. As of 2022, CuttingBoard+ is a working prototype. However, we are always improving our design. By recieving feedback from our user base, we hope to further improve the CuttingBoard+ to deliver the best possible slicing experience!
In May 2022, the CuttingBoard+ was featured in the Columbia Engineering Senior Design Expo
Test Slicing Results
Although there are still areas for improvement, you can see that the proper slicing motion is replicated as the knife is guided by the slot of the CuttingBoard+.
01
The Guide
The guide with its slot is responsible for guiding the knife through the proper slicing motion. The tip of the knife follows the path of the slot.
02
The Pin
The pin moves through the slot to replicate proper slicing motion. In order to reduce friction on the pin, axial and thrust bearings are used to ensure that there is as little play as possible during the slicing motion.
03
The Clamp
The Clamp holds the knife in place while slicing. The special clip includes a triangular extrusion so that the tip of the knife can be easily placed in the correct location.
04
The Slider
The Slider allows the Guide to be easily attached and detached from the board. With the Guide piece off, the CuttingBoard+ is compact and easy to store.
